font-size: 12pt;\">Originally posted Feb 6 2017<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Today I write about Follow through,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A few weeks ago I meet with one of my first Karate instructors for the first time in 10 years. \u00a0I\u00a0met with him and his wife in the midst of my\u00a0longing for the time when he lead our class and taught from his experience. \u00a0We talked about family and the general catch up things. \u00a0Then the term follow through came up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In the year 2001 I moved back to the area. \u00a0As I\u00a0returned to classes it was apparent our instructor\u00a0had gotten busy with his job and was not able to regularly lead classes. \u00a0There was no clear communication about\u00a0person or persons to fill in when he was unable to be there, some nights class were being led by\u00a0green or brown belts, whoever showed up.\u00a0 For years we had been aware of holes in our training and many of the black belts had petitioned the original\u00a0head instructor for\u00a0opportunities to\u00a0advance. \u00a0 The petition had met with no result and the holes were growing. \u00a0Seeing the problems identified a board meeting was called to discuss different things relating to the direction of the group. \u00a0\u00a0With assistance from Mrs.\u00a0<span class=\"markf76384969\" data-markjs=\"true\">Young<\/span>\u00a0I demonstrated things I had learned,\u00a0proposed additions to the curriculum and\u00a0taking leadership to help\u00a0move in\u00a0a slightly\u00a0new direction. \u00a0This was based on experience training with some senior instructors. \u00a0My Goal at that time was to\u00a0fill in holes in the curriculum,\u00a0move our knowledge base\u00a0forward, give a clearer understanding of our techniques\u00a0and create a structure that would help ensure the knowledge would continue to grow. \u00a0Mrs.\u00a0<span class=\"markf76384969\" data-markjs=\"true\">Young<\/span>\u00a0and I traveled to seminars and classes with people who could help us move things in the identified direction. \u00a0We\u00a0brought in \u00a0senior instructors to help all participants see the benefit of this style of training. \u00a0We expanded class offerings and moved to our own space that allows us more flexibility in class times, an ability to set up a &#8220;dojo&#8221;, have training equipment and implements, and be free from many of the distractions that were frequent in our old space. \u00a0 With these goals met\u00a0we began working on the weapons\u00a0curriculum that\u00a0had been all but abandoned allowing us to focus on Goju Ryu. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;
