Kobudo

Okinawan Kobudō (沖縄古武道), literally “old martial way of Okinawa”, is the weapon systems of Okinawan martial arts.  We study Matayoshi Kobudo referring to the style developed by Matayoshi Shinpo 又吉眞豊 and Matayoshi Shinko 又吉眞光 drawing influence from Japanese, Chinese and indigenous Okinawan martial arts styles.  It includes many weapons but the most popular are:  Bo (6 foot staff), Sai (Small Trident), Tonfa (wooden side handle batton-pair), Nunchaku (short threshing staff), Eku (Boat oar), Nunti Bo (Spear), Kuwa (Grub Ho), Sansetsu kon (three section staff), Kama (short sickles), Tinbe (Shield, usually paired with machete), Surujin (Weighted rope)
